As per the book of Exodus in the Bible, a Hebrew high priest named Aaron was dictated by God to make egis with12 gemstones. These twelve gemstones have been associated to today's advanced birthstones. The stones were arranged in 4 rows of three and were bestridden in gold filigree settings. There were 12 stones, one for each of the names of the sons of Israel, each inscribed like a seal with the name of one of the twelve tribes. The stones were Sardius, topaz and carbuncle; Emerald, sapphire and diamond; Ligure, agate and amethyst; Beryl, onyx and jasper.
For the duration of the eighth and ninth centuries, Christians allotted stones to constitute the 12 apostles: Simon Peter as jasper; Andrew as ruby; James and John as emerald; Philip as carnelian; Bartholomew as peridot; Thomas as aquamarine; Matthew as topaz; James as sardonyx; Thaddeus as chrysoprase; Simon as zircon; Matthias as amethyst; Paul as sapphire.
In the Bible's book of Revelations, the basis stones of the New Jerusalem are numbered in order of the Roman calendar they let in ,Jasper, Sapphire, Chalcedony, Emerald, Sardonyx, Sardius, Chrysolyte, Beryl, Topaz, Chrysoprasus, Jacinth and Amethyst.
It is conceived that the astrological birthstone listing was Tibetan in source. The Tibetans assigned mysterious mightiness’s to each gemstone. For instance, they conceived that if you wore an amethyst, that no matter how much you drank, it would protect you from alcohol addiction.

The following list is the one currently used today to identify the particular stones associated with each month January i.e. garnet, February i.e. amethyst, March i.e. aquamarine, April i.e. diamond, May i.e. emerald, June i.e. pearl, July i.e. ruby, August i.e. peridot, September i.e. sapphire, October i.e. opal, November i.e. yellow topaz, December i.e. blue topaz.
