Timothy W. Manning, Deputy Administrator for National Preparedness at the Federal Emergency Management Agency, will visit the Marieville Elementary School on Mineral Spring Ave. in North Providence. He will arrive at 10:30 AM on Thursday, October 22, to observe first hand a STEP class taught by Carol Zona. STEP is an acronym for Student Tools for Emergency Planning.

This program was developed by FEMA for fourth and fifth grade students. The success of the Rhode Island program has motivated Mr. Manning to see for himself, STEP in action. We have by far, the highest percentage of eligible students in New England participating in STEP and thanks to the skills and enthusiasm of our teachers, the program has been getting rave reviews across the State.

It is our hope that if Tim Manning likes what he hears and sees, he will return to Washington with the goal of taking this program nationwide.
